When a man returns to his beachside hometown in Australia, he is humiliated in front of his teenage son by a group of local surfers who claim ownership of the secluded beach of his childhood. It received a six-minute standing ovation at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. The story unfolds with Cage arriving at a beach that holds great significance to him. However, when he is ridiculed and forbidden from surfing there with his son, it sets off a series of events that progressively detach from reality, leaving the audience to question even the reality we are witnessing. One aspect I appreciate is the exploration of the sunk cost fallacy, the tendency to persist in an effort we have invested in even when the current costs outweigh the benefits. Having recently faced a similar decision, I understand how difficult it is to back down and accept a loss. Watching this in the GL Theater with Cage and the rest of the team was a very enjoyable experience.😄
