Friends, you have a very important exclusive in your hands. The editorial office of Gamemany was the first in the world to see the working build "New Union", a role -playing game about Russia after a nuclear war with the United States. In the February issue, we talked about the features of the world, but only now we were able to see it live, not on concept arts.

The event is also important for the reason that this is the first time that Best Way demonstrates the game to the press, and we are the only ones who managed to play the “New Union” at such an early stage of development (this is still the pre-Perm … Alpha ).

How it looks, how it is played, whether a stupid cranberries turned out? Will he be Milky Wins sister sites able to compete with Fallout 3? Our impressions of a two -hour demonstration are in this article!

Welcome to Butovo

According to the New Union, a disaster still occurred during the Caribbean crisis. USA and the USSR moved from threats to action. Nuclear warheads were used. Of course, everyone lost from such a war.

Both sides suffered terrifying losses, by 1962 the once fertile lands turned into a scorched desert, the main part of the world's population died, if not immediately, then from radioactive emissions. The situation is worse not to come up with, but at the same time there is good news. The Soviet Union still won. On the wreckage of Moscow, the persistent people built Victoryograd and with optimism, as far as possible in such a situation, looks into the future.

[[Bullet]] This is the garrison and our walk in the suburbs begins.

Let the sculpture and terrible landscapes everywhere. Let the hike on the mushrooms in the suburbs of the forest are full of risk: the leg will tear off an anomaly or the mushroom will suddenly become predatory and spit on the lover of boletus with something fatal (you can read our scientific research about mushrooms right now in the article next to the review on The Last of US). It doesn’t matter that mutants are walking around the neighborhood. The main thing is that they are alive. And the glory of the CPSU.

Soviet medicine is ahead of the planet and allows people to live without problems up to 90 years. Talented engineers make robots, somewhere in the Research Institute are engaged in new technologies. The labor people are kept by great, then it will only be better, the main thing is not to lose heart!

Alexander Lavrin, Air Force officer, does not know this. He has a combat mission, his plane flies to smash the capitalists, successfully performs the task, but unexpectedly falls into an anomaly, and the hero is transferred for several decades ahead, in 2014. Somewhere in the past, the bomber under the direction of Zakhara Elganin successfully smooths Washington with Earth, which contributed to the victory of the Soviet Union in the war.

[[Bullet]] to meddle in the forest with one knife – a hype. The blade is not terrible for the mutated wild boars. Eat together with the hero and will not extend.

In the demonstration build, we were shown an excerpt from the very beginning of the game. It is worth making a reservation that work on the game is in full swing, and the version that we tested was very raw-it is difficult to call such an alpha version.

The blond in a leather jacket with genuine interest considers the surroundings: here is a river, birches, rusted a car frame. Such a landscape could be found in Stalker, but the uniqueness of the situation gives the fact that Alexander Lavrin is in the suburbs. It seems that Naro-Fominsk should be in this place, but not fate. There are warning signs everywhere, it will not work far, because you will run into a mine and you will die heroically. The game producer jokes that minefields were specially arranged for journalists.

Live in 2014 and think about hopelessness

The hero retains amazing calm in an unexpected situation. Everywhere in the devastation, the settlement is visible in the distance, and the idea that now 2014 is not at all tormented by Lavrin. The Soviet officer must complete the task: together with Alice, somehow connected with the Research Institute, to reach the capital and transfer secret documents.

Alice probably knows where the “Myelophone is hidden”, is dressed modernly and looks like anyone, but not to the laboratory assistant. The developer says that it is unusual, but so far all the unusualness is that her jacket is unbuttoned almost the same as Eve from Metal Gear Solid 3 , and cartridges in weapons are not consumed. But the girl, what is it here, the colorful.

[[Bullet]] flowers in the suburbs grow right before our eyes. One has only to approach the plant, how it grows into three meters and spits into Lavrine with acid.

In such a pleasant company, we stop in the garrison – almost the only place where explosives are not buried underground. So that the travelers do not get lost, it was not a Soviet flag to be hoisted on the highest building, but a street lamp. There are very few military in the garrison: the USSR was given to the USSR with great difficulty and huge victims. Someone is refueling by a certain Kirov resident. They do not want to talk and trade with us, they say, it is necessary to resolve the authorities. Kirovchanin is temporarily absent, so the sentry at the checkpoint sends the heroes to the mechanic Vitaly Nikonorov – so far he is for the main.

Party optimism does not apply to residents of the village. Adult men (the main population of the garrison) are sitting on the ground, leaning against apple trees or transformer boots and mournfully look into the distance. Thinking, apparently, about the hopeless future and until they react to Lavrin's attempts to meet and speak.

The tall officer of the Air Force and his strangely dressed companion is not trusted, so you have to communicate with Nikonorov. Alexander is immediately told about the inconspicuous number of problems that need to be solved. Power plant junk; They say that they sent a team of repairmen there, they probably got lost, and therefore it would be nice to remind them of the return.

Locals, it seems, is not all right either. During the conversation, the player does not choose a literal replica to answer, but rather sets the mood. Most often there is an opportunity to answer politely or, as an option, humble.

Lavrin, however, is not a villain, and we decide to help residents. Chekimik engineer Stanislav Petrovich, who once professionally made moonshine, walks with a necklace from garlic. The device has broken, no more alcohol. To find out about this unconditional tragedy, Petrovich needs to talk. Nobody wants to leave the garrison, but everyone has one or two instructions for Lavrin.

Stanislav Petrovich asks us to help with the repair of the moonshine. To do this, you need to go to Nikonorov, he will carefully listen, he will scatter with his hands upset and send the hero to hell, look for a blank for detail.

[Bullet]] The game provides for a change of day and night, but in order to stability in a preview-building, it was disconnected.

While we communicate with Petrovich and solve problems, something unusual happens. During a dialogue with a chemist for a few seconds, a command appears to press the mouse button, like in Mass Effect , when Shepard has a chance to act. Click. It turns out that the hero is watching the hero. Probably, the locals do not want to poison the swill and sooner or later a stranger will call us a serious and unpleasant conversation. When talking with a mechanic, the story is repeated. The stranger literally boils us with a look.

When leaving the location, fears are confirmed. The man stops us, seems to Fedya and says that there is no need to go anywhere. The finished detail without any blank there already has. Fedyunya really wants to help people and become useful, but if he pulls out the details in the same way as he watches, troubles do not avoid troubles. Well, take the spare part, carry Petrovich and watch how he shrugs. Nothing works, the part is incredibly embedded, Fedya is an idiot. Apparently, from a walk around the wasteland, do not turn off.

Do not hunt radioactive wild boars

The garrison was a peaceful territory, it is forbidden to get a weapon in it, but in the vicinity of Yelchansk it is better to hold the ear and open fire for defeat. The world in the New Union is not seamless, it is divided into many locations. The territory is large enough, and on the study of Yelchansk you can spend three hours. The first thing that caught our eye was a small village. Five to six houses, garden, evil dogs roam between the fences. One has only to get closer, as a pack of dogs begins to run right on us.

Several exciting details immediately become clear. The trunks are wedges, there are not enough ammunition, and at first you have to run with self -polls. Fire power and rate of fire is fiercely not enough to stop the local irradiated fauna. There are too many dogs. We run closer to the houses so that the wall is from behind and the animals could not attack from the back.

The situation becomes even more serious. It turns out that it was necessary to fear not fauna, but flora. Some metamorphoses also occurred with plants – they are four meters and spitting with acid. Despite the fact that no one has been living in a village for a long time, the gardeners worked for fame and leave unscathed from here it is extremely difficult.

[[Bullet]] Funny board against a massive creature will not help. Two or three strong blows will not harm her, and the stick will break.

For the dead, Lavrin receives experience. Over time, the hero gets used to a weapon, which, incidentally, also grows in levels. A variety of upgrades are provided for guns, it is possible to insert artifacts. Many abilities will be tied to the effective destruction of opponents, and only some will help to successfully convince NPC.

All hits by opponents are calculated according to a specific formula. Before us is still a role-playing game, not a player shoots, but a laurel who is not used to getting into the head from a pistol from a distance of 100 meters. Given the lack of ammunition, most often you will have to act carefully and carefully choose opponents. In the case of predatory flowers, trying to lime all – death is like. The hero runs away from unfriendly gardens to a barn with concrete walls. It seems human silhouettes are there. Cheers, finally they will help us to cope with weeds! They did not help. Strangers were aggressive and opened fire on the hero.

[[Bullet]] And here is the purpose of all the misadventures of Lavrin is a combat helicopter. It seems that the hero will not come to him on it.

The producer tells – it is not necessary to shoot at enemies in real time, you can enter the pause mode. It looks very similar to V.A.T.S. from Fallout, but in general, the game is both in visual style, and by mechanics, and in common feelings like the game from the game from Bethesda.

Choose the enemy, indicate that it is necessary to shoot, and we hope that with a chance of 60%, the bandit will demolish his head. Unlike frantic dogs, people are cunning and try to take shelter, but graze before an unexpected situation. In our case, Lavrin took out the blade and sharply went to the rapprochement. The bandits did not expect such a surprise and quickly died from multiple stab wounds.

Silent friends

We recall the order of the mechanic – it would be nice to visit the expedition and find out what happened to the power station. The path runs through a small forest. We did not find predatory plants in it, but there are mutant boars there. They have a strong growth in front, it is useless to shoot at the snout, it is more advisable to sneak up and beat in the soft side. By one, they do not pose a danger, but flock quickly sent to the country of eternal hunting.

All this time Alice dutifully follows the hero and shoots in the direction of the enemy. In the version of the event shown to us, she did not comment on in any way, but the girl will begin to talk already in the alpha. Which is very logical: if you put the emphasis on the plot, then conversations with companions are required. In Best Way, they agree with this and want to realize interaction with allies as in Baldur’s Gate. At the same time as Lavrin, there can be up to two friends, and we really hope that three characters will find what to discuss in the post -core world.

[[Bullet]] So far, you cannot go into such buildings, but in the finished version you can explore any object.

The forest has been successfully passed, we meet repairmen on the way to the power plant … Well, as we meet … all the repairmen are dead, and some do not even have enough parts of the body. With electricity, too, a mess. A huge robot takes all energy, and many small ones fly around it. The investigation is not possible, because any attempt to go to the power plant is punishable by a fatal discharge from an anomaly. The location is plot, and it will probably have to return to it a little later.

Anomalies are still limited to sudden electric discharges in the air, although they promise that the hero will be able to freeze or irradiate to death. Told us about unique places. On Lenin Square, for example, a real hell is happening. Fire rages everywhere, and the character will have to somehow make his way to the center where the monument. With such horror, we will still encounter, but for now we need to return to the mechanics with bad news.

He does not grieve for long and decides to help us with advice. The road to the victory is a dangerous. You can go on your two, but there is a chance to get into an anomaly and do not get alive. It will be most correct to find a means of transportation, especially since the local thieves' gang and its leader, nicknamed Nagan, have a real helicopter. Lavrina is sent to the warehouse.

Why is the Red Armyman becoming a maraud

Again the run around Yelchansk, this time in a completely different direction. The camp of criminals looks much more comfortable – there is a market square, and even some semblance of a bar. Not like an alcoholic Petrovich with a moonshine apparatus. It's nice that Best Way decided not to arrange cranberries like guitarists around the fire and jokes. It is doubly good that replicas do not remind of Russian combat fiction, as it was, say, in the "pure sky". The bandits in the camp are not caricatured and will not be booming by the hairdryer only because they are criminals and they need to somehow characterize.

Nagan, for example, turned out to be an intelligent man, but instead of a productive conversation about a helicopter, he decides to check us and sends us to the arena to the mutant. From the Air Force officer to gladiators! A three -meter mutated person has more chances to win – Lavrin was taken away from Lavrin and handed a stick.

[Bullet]] Small repair robots gathered around a large. The mind is incomprehensible how this huge one will move, it seemed to us too passive.

The creature is surprisingly quickly maneuvering and sends us to heaven from three strokes. It is not possible to attack the forehead, and we were advised to beat the freak on the hump. Reloading. Once a blow, two blow – a stick breaks, Lavrin is left without a weapon. It turns out that corpses are lying in the corners of the arena, the Red Army soldier boldly begins to loot and picks up a gun.

The tactics remains the same-dive under the mutant’s blow, turn sharply and shoot two or three times at a vulnerable place. As soon as we deal with winning tactics, it turns out that the arena has two small ledges on which the mutant wants to climb. He rushes from side to side, while the hero calmly shoots the freak in the back.

Do not think that for the victory over the mutant Nagan is sensed and immediately gives Lavrine a helicopter sheathed with metal plates. No. First you will have to stay at the criminal element with a six.

At this moment, the demonstration version ended.

What can you tell?! At this stage, the game is not yet sufficiently developed, there are no many elements, without which you can’t add any final idea of ​​the project. But the general performance, at the level of sensations, the early build already gives.

"New Union" is trying by all means to be like Fallout 3, but in the USSR. And in the elements that we managed to see, he does it well. Until we were shown neither the role system nor the mass of curious places that would be interesting to study. However, in the same Yelchansk there is not only a village and a forest, but also a secret laboratory and department store.

We would like to see in the New Union not just large locations. In this case, not only the scale is important, but also the filling. Therefore, our personal advice to the developers – do not chase the scope. If the game is even five times smaller than Fallout 3, but by the saturation of events will be performed at the same high level, then for the sake of this “new union” should be waited with a bated breath. And judging by our conversation with developers, they perfectly understand this and move in the right direction.

And as a logical conclusion: in a few months the authors will be ready to demonstrate a role system and more locations. We are invited to show in advance. So wait for details somewhere in the fall.
