Plot
A grieving therapist starts telling his clients exactly what he thinks, and by disregarding his education and ethics, he ends up making huge changes in people’s lives—including his own. When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel, and Bill Lawrence were asked how they landed Harrison Ford for the show, Siegel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and would audition for people like Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they should pitch it to Ford first, thinking he’d immediately reject it, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford brought the project to them and piqued the interest of other big-name actors.
Jason Segel is perfect for this script
Goldstein eventually talked to Ford and sold him on the role. Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was excited nonetheless… Featured on WatchMojo: The 10 Best TV Shows of 2023 (So Far) (2023) And the rest of the performance is great, too. He has a weird, idiotically confident energy that’s necessary for the role.
And Jessica is perfect
Her humor fits the dialogue perfectly. It’s a new way of resolving situations. No real punch lines, just engaging personalities with a bit of weirdness and a family situation that’s a bit above the norm but still relatable.
It’s just not possible
Of course, Jimmy’s behavior as a therapist is completely absurd. You’ll lose your license immediately. But we allow for metaphorical situations in the drama.
Other reviewers have clearly struggled
There’s a strong sense of purpose in the decisions made in this script. We have to give the writers credit and try to get to the heart of the matter. It’s easy and enjoyable for me.
